Dr Watson is visiting his good friend Sherlock Holmes in the country at the small farm in the South Downs to which he had retired and where he was devoting himself to nothing more serious than the raising of bees. But things are not quite so peaceful when the rector arrives to ask for Holmes help. The previous night the rectory had been broken in to and the entire house was ransacked but not a single thing was missing. It seemed like a pointless robbery.
