When his estranged grandmother dies Dr Tom Lodge inherits her entire estate, a small inn and 15 acres of land including a small house where Mrs Meggs lives. However, the estate has to be sold and all the money given to the bank to repay the $75,000 that his father had stolen from it when he worked their as assistant cashier. That was six years ago and neither Tom's father or the money have ever been seen since.
