In common with every other western community, Pecos wanted a railroad, but the newly organized Pecos and Western refused to organize unless the county voted bonds to assist it. A grand rally had been called, and the inhabitants of both the town and the surrounding country listened to the argument of J C Bludgett, the company's president and general manager.
