Simon Templar meets a woman called Peggy on the bus and she asks his help for her boyfriend Breckon Ridge who is the manager of prizefighter Benny the Battler a lousy middleweight fighter who has no chance of winning the fight scheduled for that night. Ridge is concerned because all the gamblers are putting their money on Benny including a guy called Sweeny who doesn’t’ take kindly to been offered a bad deal.
