Private Throgg

Broadcast: May 9, 1939
Added: May 31 2010

This short play was performed to commemorate Memorial Day and is a dramatized character study of Elias Throgg who fought in the Union Army. It also includes a specially prepared program from Richmond Virginia with the story of the founding of the first Memorial Day and an interview with several honored veterans of the confederate ranks. You will hear from Mr John Shaw a 104 year old man born February 6th, 1835 who served under General Stewart throughout the four years in the American civil war 1861-1865. He was a courier in the cavalry.  It is so amazing to hear the voices of veterans who actually served all those years ago.
