A paperhanger gets stuck in a lift in an apartment block on his way home. He fears he is going to be there sometime when he hears a man and a woman talking on the landing. He spies them through a gap and is about to call out when he hears them planning to murder his wife so he stays quiet. If they can kill his wife they would surely have no qualms about killing him. He finds himself in fear of his life when they discover the lift is stuck and the woman worries that there may be someone in there who has overheard them.
