Professor Jacobi, who calls himself an artist of photography, is in the saloon and is about to take a photograph of Kitty and one of the punters, Toad.  

He is taking photographs for the people back east, photos he knows the people want to see, of dancehall girls, desperados and gunfighters, savage Indians and the violence of the west. These are the subjects he believes will sell his photographs. 

Kitty, tells Matt she doesn’t like the photographer, there is something about him that’s not quite right.
