In 1814, England and America were at last at peace after the senseless war of 1812. The HMS Arrabella set sail from India for England, and was flying the flag of the East India Company, 1100 tonnes burden, and her clustering square rigged sails were hungry for a breath of air in the calm of the Indian Ocean. Of the complement aboard, we need consider only two people; the Lady Castleton, wife of the Governor General of India who was headed home to rejoin her two young children; and a certain Captain Giles Maybury, who was sequestered in irons on his way back to England to be tried for murder and high treason...
