Dr Kildare stands in for young intern Paul Bailey on the ambulance. It is the third time Bailey has been late and when his breath smells of liquor. Paul Bailey apologies and says he can explain but Dr Carew is not hearing any excuses and calls a special board meeting that afternoon. However Bailey fails to attend and is suspended. Dr Kildare is surprised as he saw something in Bailey that didn’t look like a man that would avoid his medical obligations.
