July 9th 1776 was a day Sally Townsend would never forget. The Declaration of Independence was being read for the first time in New York state and Sally Townsend wondered why she was ever so privileged to hear those wonderful words. She saw that declaring independence and the act of winning it were were two separate things.

Sally Townsend heart and soul of the rebel cause, set herself the task of spying on the two British officers visiting the Townsend home in Oyster Bay and finds to her dismay that she's falling in love with one of them, Colonel John Simko.
