Joan is a seriously ill woman who is determined to enjoy the rest of her life as she embarks on a cruise. Dan is a re-captured prisoner being transported to San Francisco for execution. When Dan saves the life of his escort Steve who falls overboard while they are handcuffed together Steve agrees to give him freedom on the liner for the next 14 days.

Dan and Joan meet and fall hopelessly in love but neither knows the others secret.
