The team was fighting its way through a blizzard, but when King slowed down and started to bark, there was some other reason - rather than the difficulties of the trail. King was barking at two mounds of white at the side of the trail. The Sergeant unharnessed him, and he ran toward them. As he did, a dog's head appeared from one of the mounds. Crouched close to the ground, he had been completely covered by the snow. There was no sign of life from the other mound...
