Henpecked husband, Clarence Andover, calls the Lyons Detective agency to help with a situation involving his daughter, Dorothy, who has been taken to jail, accused of murder. The girl's stuffy and controlling stepmother, Emily, believes that Dorothy is always up to no-good, and needs spiritual and moral guidance, refusing the help of Jeff Regan. But Clarence for once, doesn't do as he is instructed by his wife, and Regan heads off to jail to talk with Dorothy about the death of Jimmy - who they're both certain wasn't killed by her.
