Darkness had fallen over the Monterey coast as Kenneth Devlin turned to the convertible off the highway, and backed it in to the dark shadow and turned off the motor. As he sat there in the darkness waiting his eyes never left the two-storey house. In the distance he could hear the pounding of the surf and then suddenly close by another sound the ringing of a telephone. Yes Ken your plan is working, you see the figure of your housekeeper walk past the lighted kitchen window into another room. Then you step out of the car and run towards the house Pause at the door for a moment then step in to the house and sneak up to your bedroom where your wife is sleeping and put poison in the milk on her bedside table.
