Gordon Pym was reading the shipping news one morning whilst visiting a friend in Boston when he saw an ad from an old friend Benjamin Bernard and his son Weston requiring experienced whalers to man his ship sailing July 13th 1am 1881. He arrived six hours earlier and met with a guy named Peters who had a very bad opinion of Captain Bernard and not without good reason.
