This is one of Edgar Allen Poes most horrifying and mystifying stories. Set in Paris in the year 1840 a young off duty gendarme Pierre and his sweetheart Yvette are returning to her apartment in the Rue Morgue after an evening at the Moulin Rouge. Screams are heard by the residents coming from the apartment of Madame Lespanya from Madame and her daughter Camille. Pierre breaks down the door and he and Yvette discover Madame Lespanya with her throat slashed, brutally murdered in her apartment. Her daughter Camille has also been murdered and her body has been stuffed up the chimney face down. There is no sign of the killer and even more strange is that the door was locked from the inside and the only two doors in the apartment are both nailed down.
