Columbia Workshop presents the first radio performance of T. S. Eliot's outstanding poetic drama Murder in the Cathedral. It is the story of Archbishop Thomas Becket's struggle with Henry II, king of England and dates back to the twelfth century when England was torn by the struggle of the King,  the Archbishops and the Barons  for supremacy. In 1164 Becket was obliged to flee to France where he had the protection of the Pope. 

The action of the play begins with his return from Exile six years later. The women of Canterbury and the priests have gathered at the cathedral to await their archbishop...
