This adventure takes place on board the steamship Lucifer in the summer of 1894. Holmes and Watson are on their way to Calcutta to investigate the case of the White Elephant. Holmes unearths something of a mystery on board ship. He notices that there are some suites on the bridge deck and though he knows they are occupied, as yet, they haven't seen anyone go in or come out. Then one evening they are invited to meet The Ranee of Kavarati. It seems she has been receiving death threats.
