The Prairie Belle was steaming up the Missouri toward the Dakota Territory. Among the passengers was a full company of soldiers, under the command of Captain Bill Dennis. Reinforcements for Fort Benton and the headquarters of the Missouri. The captain was accompanied by Clare - his young and beautiful bride - and this late afternoon, the two of them were standing on the upper deck, watching the river ahead and the mighty forest which rose on either side.
