Pete Frasier's father had died in the Yukon as poor as the day when he had first arrived in the territory to search for gold. But the older man's failure had not deterred Pete from succumbing to the same lure that had drawn his father northward during the stampede of '98. In the spring of the following year, Pete sailed from Seattle with his pretty wife Karen. Although they too failed to strike it rich, Pete staked out a claim on Dutchman's Creek which provided the young couple with a modest living. A few weeks after they had settled down in their isolated cabin, Pete and Karen were woken one night by an ominous pounding on the door...
