Detective Danny Clover is on the case of a young woman's murder. A local subway train guard heard a girl screaming, and fought his way through the alighting passengers to find a woman on the platform who had been stabbed. She was rushed to hospital, but it's too late. Detective Clover questions the girl's father, but he has no clues as to what trouble his daughter might have been in, or why someone would want to murder her.
