Miss Billings tells him she has never heard of Joe Stepenak when he calls on her at her boarding house. He tells her that he is one of the riches men in the county and how he grew up there and used to admire her families mansion house. The house is now standing empty and Mr Stepenak wants to buy the house, as was his childhood dream. The Billings family no longer owns the house since her father handed it over to the bank 7 years ago. But now Joe Stepenak, the boy from the flats turned rich wants to not only buy the house but also marry Miss Billings.
