The Lion called Jeff Regan with instructions to get dressed to meet a new client named Dora King. Regan got to the bar at about 11:30 and two drinks later Dora King arrived. She drove him to a boarding house two blocks away to meet a guy named Big Ben Bender who had just spent the last seven years in a sanatorium where he made a lot of friends and a lot of enemies, trouble is sometimes you can’t tell one from the other. All the while Bender had been away he had a key to his safety deposit box around his neck and now he wanted Regan to wear it until the morning when he would meet him at the bank.
