You're going to meet up with Jack Carter, an historian, and his wife Mary, a painter. Jack teaches at Cape Royal College, and has taken a sabbatical to write a book he calls the Conquest of Canada. The Carters have a houseboat tied up off the St Lawrence river and they also have a cottage nearby which Mary uses as a studio. We find them finishing a meal on the houseboat - probably the last time their lives will be normal.
