"To begin with, I was a Sergeant with a machine gun crew, and one day four of us got lost. Hopelessly, miserably and very unmilitarily lost on a mist shrouded battlefield in France. Before the fog came in, we'd been advancing through the hedgerows and on that particular day it had been easy because the enemy had pulled back to new positions. But with that fog, everything changed! Suddenly we ran out of hedgerows and into a forest, and what a forest it was!"
