Squire Skimp has answered Lum's call for help, and has volunteered to talk with Mabel Melrose, to attempt to talk her out of marrying Lum, even though she was the winner of Abner's war bond contest to find a wife for his partner and war-savings staff co-chairman. As we look in on the little community today, we find the old fellows in their store and library, where Abner is talking on the telephone.
