As we look in on the little community of Pine Ridge today, we find Lum counting up the cans of tomatoes and asparagus in the Jot 'em Store with Abner, before they argue over how to spell the word 'asparagus', before agreeing to change the name of the asparagus to beets. Lum has been in the Jot 'em Down store for forty years and has decided he wants to sell out as he doesn't want to get in a rut. He figures he needs to do something else before he reaches his prime!
