Lum is trying to find a fancy valentine card for Miss Rowena but Abner isn't helping him any with his jokey comments. The most fancy card in the shop is 35 cents but Lum declares that before he'd pay that much he'd make his own valentine card for Rowena! He asks Abner for his help writing some words in the card but all that he can come up with to rhyme with Rowena is hyena and farina! With all the mishaps that occur Lum would have been better spending the 35 cents!
