When such incompatible words as Counterfeit and Lovely found themselves together in the title of this story by James Cain they said a lot not only about the story but about the men, Ben Grace as well. Elements of both words crowded through him. On the one side for example was his dislike for meanness and greed and on the other side something forged, fictitious and false.
