Lyge Watson had staked his claim close to the waterfall on Cascades Creek, and unlike most of the miners who had come up there during the rush, he built a comfortable cabin for himself and his ten-year-old son. Now, with the first snow of winter lying white on the ground, all of the prospectors were leaving the creek. Lyge was the only one who had struck pay dirt in any quantity, and it looked as though it would soon only be he and Ty left at the creek.
