Young Barney O'Neil left County Wexford in 1846, at the height of the famine. He arrived in the city of Brooklyn where in time he became a police officer. Although he would never know it, since he fell at the battle of Gettysburg in 1863, he had founded a dynasty. He has been followed on the police force by four succeeding generations, father and son, for over a century. It has never occurred to a descendant of Barney O'Neil to be anything but a cop, and for over one hundred years, the O'Neils have been the pride of New York's finest...
