The house is big and rambling and slightly run down but the garden is perfection in the twilight. Over by the raspberry bushes, George the gardener has dug a large square pit, which Mrs. Wentworth has noticed from the window. The house is on the edge of town but Mrs. Wentworth doesn’t mind that except when it storms. Tonight there are fork flashes of jagged lightening in the east which throw the old house in to pearl gray silhouettes.
