Marie and Ken Martin are driving home from a movie when a car tries to drive them off the road. When they stop the driver of the car approaches them, knows them by name and forces them out of the car at gunpoint demanding twenty thousand dollars in cash. They threaten them by showing them the head of one of their victims, Mr Jordan who is dead but for his head which is being kept alive by mechanical means. The gang is terrorising the citizens of the town and the commissioner asks Lamont Cranston aka the Shadow for his help.
