Early one morning just after sunrise, Holmes and Watson were on their way down to the beach from Holmes’s retirement cottage for their morning swim when they saw McPherson a teacher from the local school staggering across the top of the cliff in agony. When they reach him he can hardly breathe and is suffering convulsions. He manages to eek out the words, “mane, the lions mane,” before dying before them…
