This story concerns one John Parker, respected citizen of a small mid western town and owner of a comfortable yet unpretentious home. John Parker would appear to the casual observer a good average American citizen. Julia, John’s wife is also a popular member of the community, her bridge teas are the delight of the literary club and although her set considers Julia a bit too noisy and gaudy for rigid good taste it manages to forgive the impression for Julia is from New York and just not used to the quietness of the small town.
