It's early evening in Rivers End and Dr. Christian is just winding up his round of calls with a visit to Mr. Bennett, the local banker. Mr. Bennet is lying prostrate on a davenport in the living room but Dr. Christian can't seem to find anything wrong with him except a bad case of nerves. Mrs. Bennet is frankly indignant over the whole situation as she explains to Dr. Christian that it all just his imagination. But, Mr. Bennet explains to Dr. Christian about the scary dream he has every evening, the dream he has every evening when he puts a particular pair of slippers on!
