It is Sunday morning April 9th 1865. This report is coming from Appomattox courthouse in Virginia. The moment that 8 million men, women and children of the confederacy have been expecting has come. General Robert E Lee supreme commander of the southern forces has left his headquarters for a meeting with the commander of the northern armies, General Ulysses S Grant to discuss what terms he is willing to offer for the surrender of the army of Northern Virginia.
