The winter winds moaned about the gabled house like a wandering band of wailing women. As Caroline Giles puzzled, frightened by something she had seen in the gathering dust, she made her way into the living room. This is young Mrs Giles first night at the family mansion built by her husband's grandfather. Only this morning the attractive bride had arrived, after a honeymoon in Europe. When she enters the huge, shadow filled room, she notices the servant girl at the window.
