With the growth of the cattle business in the old south west, came a proportionate increase in outlaws - road agents, rustlers, crooked gamblers, all heard about the money from afar and came flocking after it. Many counties, because of unpreparedness, couldn't cope with the outlaws, and other counties met the situation as did the Sheriff.
