It is an unpleasant cold snowy night and Casey and Ann are driving home on the slippery road after an out-of-town assignment. When they see a large lit up sign they decide to stop for a cup of coffee. Casey recognises the name of the café as belonging to racketeer Shark Yardley. Suddenly the light goes out and Casey and Annie see two men struggling to a car with a man they believe to be drunk. As that car drives off the light comes on again and Casey spots a key in the snow that the men seem to have dropped. He takes it in to the bar and discovers that the key is covered in blood.
