Arch Obolor's dramatization of Johnny Got His Gun written by Dalton Trumbo is deeply moving and excellently acted by James Cagney. It tells the story of Joe Bonham who 22 years ago had been enlisted in the Great War and who returned “a block of flesh” with no arms and no legs and no eyes with which to see and no mouth with which to speak.
