In he dinning room in a hotel in Kensington, London two widows, Agnes Lansbury and Renee Regan are having dinner. Mrs Regan has asked the charming Mr Hart, a research chemist,  to join them for dinner. The three of them enjoy each others company and after their third meeting Mr Hart invites Mrs Regan to join him for a walk and then the following day to join him on a visit to Crawley. That evening Renee doesn't join her friend for dinner. Not especially unusual, but when she doesn't come down for breakfast the following morning Agnes becomes worried about her friend who seems to have disappeared.
