Peggy wanted Simon Templar to pretend to be her husband so that her last husband, Charlie wouldn’t murder her. She believed he would think twice about beating her to death if she was married to the Saint. She believed that Charlie would kill her to get out of paying her alimony. However she was also worried that his present wife Vicky would kill him, which would also mean that Peggy wouldn’t get any alimony as Vicky would get all the money!
