This is a story set in romantic old Carolina. In the year 1744 a girl named Eliza Lucas is trying to start an Indigo dye industry on her father's plantation in South Carolina. Difficulties arose when a dye maker, Pierre Oban, who has come from the West Indies to help Eliza, quarrels with her overseer, stabs him and disappears. And because his knowledge is essential to the creation of an indigo industry in the colonies, Eliza determines to find Pierre and bring him back to her plantation.
