Born in to a wealthy publishing family Dudley Miller was determined to succeed on his own merits that was why he felt so strongly when the decision to publish a book was left to solely up to him. As the editor of a big publishing house he was supposed to understand people but the main character of the Elsie Smith novel, The Grace of God seemed completely false and the decision to publish it was left completely to him. In desperation he decided to pay the author a visit and was surprised by what he discovered.
