The conversations were varied at the hilltop café on highway 101. That was because of the way customers would come and go, like Eddie Martin, owner and operator of the Martin Truck Lines. He stopped in regularly, enjoyed his coffee and a chat with Hazel, the Hilltop’s genial proprietor. He was a hard worker, Eddie and come quite a way in the difficult and sometimes risky business of hauling freight by truck between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Hazel knew him well and liked him. Their conversations usually ran along the same lines with the constant background of jukebox music…
