Rocketing through space on a scientific mission to the outer edges of the solar system space cadets Tom Corbett, Roger Manning and Astro prepare the rocket cruiser Polaris for a landing on the planet Pluto. On the control deck Major Connell, a hardened space pioneer and commander of the expedition cracks out orders briskly as they approach a planet that looks like one big snowball with mountains of ice.
