Host Orson Welles - Little Red Riding Hood

Host Orson Welles - Little Red Riding Hood

Broadcast: April 4, 1943
Added: May 30 2023

It's the fourth and final week of guest host Orson Welles filling in for Jack Benny. As the show starts, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Phil Harris, and Dennis Day stop at a drugstore lunch counter on their way to the studio. Mary makes a phone call to Benny (not heard). The others have mixed reactions to the news that Benny will return next week. Welles arrives, and the group proceeds to the studio for the show. There, Rochester sorrowfully informs Welles that he can no longer work for him now that Benny is returning. The whole cast performs a comedy sketch based on the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, with Mary as Red and Welles as the wolf. The show's musical numbers include three orchestral pieces - Night Train to Memphis, Taking a Chance on Love, and For Me and My Gal - and As Time Goes By, sung by Dennis Day.
