Finally deciding to wait no longer for Tank, Hop and Dixie, riding Sequoia, started down a narrow dirt lane leading to the only pass out of the valley, when suddenly Dixie's reconverted C47 roared over the high ridge to the west. Tex and Joe Bell were returning! Caught out in the open, they galloped back towards the ranch house, but before they could reach its shelter, Joe dove down on them!
