The subject under discussion at the moment on Capitol Hill, is a re-examination of the Homestead Act. The business of running this country of ours requires thousands of bills and acts, all vital components of the democratic process - and any one of these might be the instrument for inequity or injustice. Part of our lawmakers job is to be constantly alert to the rights and privileges of their constituents. Although the homestead act was passed in 1902, its provisions are still in active use, and the original intent of the act may be well-served by this current discussion, on the Senate floor.
